Peppermint Oreo bark is a quick and easy no-bake treat made with crushed Oreos, peppermint extract, and a layer of rich chocolate for the perfect festive dessert.

Stack of green peppermint Oreo bark pieces on a white plate with whole Oreos on the side, with more bark cooling on a baking sheet in the background.

This peppermint Oreo bark requires just a few ingredients and has the best mix of cool peppermint, rich chocolate, and crunchy cookies. It sets quickly, makes a big batch, and is perfect for gifting, cookie trays, or whenever you need a fast no-bake dessert.

Why you’ll love this recipe:

  • Just a handful of ingredients: Chocolate chips, candy melts, peppermint extract, and Oreos.
  • Freezer-friendly: Make it ahead and freeze for easy prep.
  • Customizable: Swap in mint Oreos, add sprinkles, use white chocolate chips, or mix in crushed candy canes.

Ingredients you’ll need

•  Chocolate chips form the base layer of the Oreo bark and add richness.

•  Oreo cookies: I used regular classic Oreos but you can use Golden, mint, or any flavor you like.

•  Vanilla candy melts so your Oreo layer melts smoothly and sets firmly. You can buy these at Walmart, Amazon, and many grocery or craft stores.

• Peppermint extract adds a cool minty flavor that contrasts perfectly with the chocolate chip layer.

• Green gel food coloring is totally optional, but gives the Oreo layer a fun peppermint look for Christmas or St. Patrick’s Day.

How to make your Oreo bark

how to make peppermint Oreo bark step by step

  • Melt chocolate chips and spread them into an even layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet, then refrigerate to set.
  • Melt vanilla candy melts, then stir in peppermint extract, crushed Oreos, and green gel food coloring.
  • Spread the Oreo layer on top of the chocolate layer.

Refrigerate, then break or cut into pieces! It couldn’t be easier.

Recipe notes and tips

• Don’t spread the chocolate too thin. A slightly thicker base helps the bark break cleanly and hold the Oreo layer without cracking.

• To ensure you don’t spread the chocolate too thin, spreading it into a 12- by 9-inch rectangle makes it the perfect thickness. You can draw the rectangle on the reverse side of your parchment or just eyeball it.

• Let the chocolate chips set completely before adding your Oreo layer.

• Have your peppermint extract, food coloring, and crushed Oreos ready to go before you melt your candy melts; they set up fast.

• Crush the Oreos lightly. You want chunks, not crumbs. Bigger pieces give better texture and look nicer in the finished bark.

• You can reserve a few of the crushed Oreos to sprinkle on top but you’ll have to sprinkle them fast since the candy melts set quickly.

• Use gel food coloring, not liquid. Liquid coloring can change the texture of candy melts.

• I used Wilton gel food coloring in the shade Kelly green but you can use whatever brand and shade you prefer. Gel food coloring is available on Amazon, at Michaels, and is carried in some grocery stores too.

If you’re not familiar with candy melts, they’re round, colored (or white) wafers made for melting and dipping, and they’re sold in most craft stores, big-box stores, and the baking aisle of some grocery stores. They melt smoothly and set firmly, which makes them perfect for this bark.

Vanilla-flavored almond bark works just as well, so feel free to swap that in if you prefer or if that’s what you find at your store.

Variations

Mint Oreo Bark: Swap the peppermint extract for mint extract and use mint Oreos for an extra minty version.

White Chocolate Base: Use melted white chocolate chips instead of semisweet for a sweeter, creamier bark.

Christmas Oreo Bark: Use red-and-green Holiday Oreos for a festive look without any food coloring. You can add red and green sprinkles too!

Golden Oreo Bark: Try Golden Oreos with white chocolate and pastel sprinkles for an Easter version.

How to store your Oreo bark

Uneaten Oreo bark can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks.

You can also freeze it in airtight containers for up to 2 months.

Layer your Oreo bark with wax paper if you’re stacking it in containers.

You can store the Oreo bark at room temperature for short periods but it holds its shape best when it’s stored in the fridge or freezer.
