What’s better than a bowl of ice cream on a hot day?  A bowl of HOMEMADE ice cream (for dogs) that you can share with all of your furry friends.

I dreamed this recipe up when I was playing around with banana “nice” cream for myself.  Cookie LOVES bananas and gave me all kinds of sad eyes while I was devouring a bowl of chocolate nice cream; she could smell the banana and normally I give her a little bite.  But I draw the line at sharing my chocolate with her.

Since her birthday(s) are coming up (we celebrate both the day I brought her home and the day I signed her adoption papers) I decided she deserved her own ice cream, but an ice cream for dogs.  Sans chocolate 🙂

And this ice cream is made with peanut butter, which is one of her very favorite things.  She takes after me in that way.

I found these adorable silicone molds on Amazon so I could make the ice cream into ice cream treats because another way Cookie takes after me is not being good at portion control.  These have that built right in, and they’re adorable to boot.

You can totally just spoon some ice cream into a bowl or freeze it in ice cube trays if you don’t want to order special molds specific for dog treats.

If your dog can’t have dairy you can absolutely make these dog treats dairy-free; just omit the yogurt.  You may need to add a little water to help the mixture get creamy.

However you shape them, and whether you add dairy or not, these are the easiest treats you’ll ever make for your dogs.  The banana needs to be frozen solid, but aside from the freezing time these treats take less than 5 minutes to whip together.

FIVE MINUTES!  And three ingredients you probably have on hand already.  What are you waiting for?

Here’s a little pic of Cookie in her Easter/birthday dress.  She doesn’t love to pose for the camera, but when there’s peanut butter banana ice cream for dogs waiting for her she becomes more willing.

Give us your best shot, Phoenix summer heat.  Cookie and I are ready for you this year!

If you make these little ice cream dog treats, let me know what you (and your fur baby) think with a comment and recipe rating below! Post a pic on Insta too–tag @theitsybitsykitchen so I can see!

Always important that we celebrate as many birthdays for our pets as possible! You should celebrate Cookie’s half-birthdays too. 🙂 And this looks terrific. I think I’ll become a dog for the day so I can have some too! 😀

What an awesome idea! The only touch I’ve had baking for dogs is one time I was little and wanted to make our pup at the time (Rally the golden retriever) homemade biscuits. Tons of work that took forever (mainly slowly baking until they were bone dry). I’d say these look a heck of a lot easier, have to whip up a batch this summer for my parents’ 2 shepherds (We are stilling working on getting our own pup!).

    Anyways, thanks for sharing! 🙂

I’ve been on a banana and peanut butter as breakfast or lunch kick lately. I would be all over this if I were a fur baby, haha! Happy early birthdays to Cookie!

Yay Ice cream for dogs. I love watching dogs eating ice cream. I have a social media marketing client that is thinking about adding dog treats to her line I know she would love this recipe. Plus how doesn’t love the combination of peanut butter and bananas? I know I do. Since Spring is right around the corner this is the perfect treat for our four legged friends. I’ve never made ice cream in a food processor, I’m going to have to try this. Have a great week Kelsie.

Kelsie, I made this recipe this morning BUT, one banana only made seven cubes. Can you double or tipple the recipe? By the way, they taste great!!

You sure you want to taunt Phoenix like that? I mean I hear it can get hot out there! That’s like me saying “Give me all the snow you can find, Upstate New York.” (For the record, that would be one of the dumbest things I’ve ever said…and I’ve said plenty of dumb things.) But let’s talk ice cream. I love the idea of making the dogs’ their own ice cream. And those molds! These look amazing, Keslie! Cookie really is lucky to have a mom like you around. 🙂
