We all need an easy (and no bake!) cake in our back pockets. This strawberry Twinkie cake is exactly that. It comes together in a flash, feeds a crowd, and is the perfect dessert to take to summer potlucks.

Even if you’re not someone who makes desserts regularly, you can totally make this recipe successfully! And here’s exactly how to do it. . .

Why you’ll love this Twinkie cake:

  • All of the ingredients are easy to find at most grocery stores
  • The cake should chill overnight, so it’s a perfect make-ahead dessert option
  • You don’t need to turn on the oven to make it!

How to make your cake

no bake Twinkie cake step by step

  • Arrange Twinkies in a 13- by 9-inch baking dish
  • Pour jello mixed with water over the Twinkies
  • Top with vanilla pudding

how to finish Twinkie cake

  • Spread strawberry pie filling over the pudding layer; cover and chill overnight
  • When you’re ready to serve, spread whipped topping over the pie filling

Slice (or scoop!), serve, and enjoy!

Recipe notes and tips

• You’ll need 14 Twinkies for this recipe; a lot of grocery stores carry boxes of 10 Twinkies

• The Twinkies will fit into the bottom of a 13- by 9-inch baking dish but you’ll have to squeeze them a little bit

• You’ll need a 3-ounce box of strawberry gelatin (I used jello)

• Use a 6-ounce box of instant pudding; I used jello but you can use any brand

• I used Duncan Hines pie filling but any brand is fine as long as the can is roughly 21 ounces

• I used Cool Whip for the topping on my cake. Be sure, if you use frozen whipped topping, that you defrost it in the fridge overnight. You can also make homemade whipped cream if you prefer that to whipped topping.

• See below for ways to vary your cake

How to store your cake

Uneaten no bake Twinkie cake can be stored, covered, in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

I don’t recommend freezing your cake.

Variations

You can vary your cake in all kinds of ways

• Use a different flavor of jello (cherry would be delicious!)

• Try a different flavor of pie filling

• Cherry pie filling with cherry jello would be delicious; lemon jello with blueberry pie filling would be fun too

• Substitute a different flavor of pudding—cheesecake would be a delicious option with any jello/pie filling flavor

This Twinkie cake is an easy, no bake dessert that's a hit for summer parties and potlucks. The cake needs to chill overnight so it's a great make-ahead dessert option!

Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Servings: 15
Author: Kelsie
Ingredients
  • 14 Twinkies
  • 3- ounce box strawberry jello
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 6- ounce box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold whole milk
  • 21- ounce can strawberry pie filling
  • 16 ounces whipped topping thawed
Instructions
  1. Arrange the (unwrapped!) Twinkies in the bottom of a 13- by 9-inch baking dish. You’ll have to squeeze them a little to fit.
  2. Stir the jello and boiling water together in a mixing bowl until the jello dissolves. Spoon evenly over the Twinkies.
  3. Whisk together the pudding mix and whole milk until the pudding sets (see directions on box for how long to whisk). Spread the pudding over the Twink.
  4. Pour the pie filling on top of everything and gently spread to cover the whole dish.
  5. Cover the cake loosely with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  6. When you’re ready to serve, spread the whipped topping over the cake. Slice and serve.
  7. Uneaten cake can be stored, covered, in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Recipe Notes

I used Duncan Hines strawberry pie filling and Cool Whip whipped topping. Generic brands are fine as long as they’re the same size as listed in this recipe.
