These Nutella bars are ridiculously easy to make and they come together in less than 15 minutes—they’re the perfect thing when you want dessert in a hurry!
I say this often: Nutella is my kryptonite. I’ve always been happy just to eat it right out of the jar but now I have a new favorite (and far less messy!) way to consume the good stuff.
Nutella bars. Ridiculously EASY Nutella bars, packed with chocolate chips, soft and chewy and oh-so-good. And as an extra point of sale: eating one of these bars makes you far less likely to end up with Nutella smeared all over your face. (Not that I know anything about that. . .)
The key to these Nutella bars is under-baking them slightly so they stay soft—eating one is almost like eating cookie dough with Nutella frosting.
Um yeah. Cookie dough with Nutella. Does dessert get any better?
Why you’ll love these Nutella bars:
- All you need to make them is one bowl and a wooden spoon (NO MIXER!)
- They come together in less than 15 minutes
- The ingredient list is minimal and you probably already have most of the ingredients on hand
Nutella bars, step by step
Combine melted butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar in a mixing bowl and stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the mixture is smooth. Mix in eggs and vanilla, then salt and flour.
Fold in some chocolate chips until they’re evenly distributed, then add 1/4 cup of Nutella. Use a rubber spatula to stir the Nutella into the cookie dough—STIR THE DOUGH just one time.
You’re not trying to mix the Nutella in completely, but rather to create ribbons of Nutella throughout the dough.
Scrape the cookie dough into a 9-inch square baking pan (sprayed first with cooking spray) and dollop another 1/4 cup of Nutella over the top of the cookie dough. Use a knife to swirl the dough and Nutella together.
Bake for about 22 minutes, until the edges of the bars are set. Don’t be tempted to leave your Nutella bars in the oven until they look completely done; you want the center of the bars to be a little jiggly when you pull them out.
And you’re done! Super quick, super easy, super delicious.
Looking for a little variation?
- Use dark or milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet
- Sprinkle some flaky sea salt over the bars before you put them in the oven
- Add 1/2 cup of chopped hazelnuts in place of 1/2 cup of the chocolate chips
Next time you’re craving chocolate I hope you’ll give these Nutella bars a shot. I can just about guarantee they’ll satisfy your cravings.
Unless you were craving salad—I’m not sure these are a good substitute for lettuce.

Easy Nutella bars come together quickly and are easy to make--perfect for when you want cookies in a hurry!
- 12 tablespoons unsalted butter melted and cooled slightly
- 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup Nutella divided
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9-inch square baking pan with cooking spray and set aside.
- Combine the butter and sugars in a large mixing bowl and beat vigorously with a wooden spoon until smooth. Mix in the egg and vanilla until combined.
- Mix in the salt, then the flour and stir until the flour is just incorporated. Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
- Pour 1/4 cup of the Nutella over the top of the batter and stir with a rubber spatula ONE TIME. You’re not trying to mix it in fully, but to create ribbons.
- Scrape the dough into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Dollop the remaining Nutella over the dough and use a knife to swirl the two together.
- Bake 22 to 26 minutes, until golden around the edges but not quite set in the middle. (The middle should still jiggle a little bit if you tap the pan.)
- Remove from the oven and cool completely on a wire rack. Slice into bars and serve.
If you want to play around with your cookie bars, try these variations:
- Use dark or milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet
- Sprinkle some flaky sea salt over the bars before you put them in the oven
- Add 1/2 cup of chopped hazelnuts in place of 1/2 cup of the chocolate chips

So easy to make and oh so good. Next time I think I’ll top with sea salt as suggested.
I had to altar recipe slightly due to ingredients on hand
Salted butter instead of unsalted. Milk chocolate chips and parchment paper in pan versus cooking spray
Kelsie says
I hope you love the sea salt on top!
Abby says

Do these freeze well? I’d like to make some in advance!
Kelsie says
They freeze really well! Just like regular chocolate chip cookies.
Jacqueline M St Ours says
Can i use coconut oil you think, instead of butter?
Kelsie says
I haven’t tried it that way myself but I googled it and it looks like that should work fine. It would be a 1:1 substitution. Measure it while it’s solid, then melt.
Nyla-Rae Doyle says
It didn’t take 22-26 minutes it took like 40 minutes to bake tested good tho
Kelsie says
I’m sorry it didn’t bake in the specified time!
Cooki Gig says
Tried these today! Didn’t add any chocolate chips and instead opted for crumbling butter cookies on top before baking with a dash of sea salt after baking. 10/10 will definitely bake again~~
Kelsie says
I love the sound of the cookies on top!
anika ross says
12 tablespoons??
Kelsie says
Yep! It’s equivalent to 3/4 cup.
Candace says
This looks amazing! If I wanted to make enough for a 9×13 pan what would you recommend?
Kelsie says
Hi Candace! You could probably double the recipe for a pan that size but I’m not sure if the cookies in the middle would bake enough before the edges over-bake. I would probably just make two batches and bake both in the 9-inch square dish.
Tim says
This is my new go to quick dessert to make in a pinch. Especially when you don’t want to show up empty handed.

I’m so glad you liked them, Tim! Thanks for letting me know!
